I am pleased to offer Pet Photography to all of my wonderful clients!
As I spend time photographing new babies, children, couples and all of the families in between, it’s hard to miss all of the beautiful pets as well. Dogs are the animals that I photograph most often, along with cats and horses. I found myself always taking a few shots of my clients’ animals while there was downtime, or a dress change, during our regular sessions, and then I realized I’d love to pursue Pet Portraiture as a sub-category in my portfolio. After all, pets are part of the family too!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Pet Sessions are fun and fast paced. Most dogs are very busy during the session. I always have healthy treats on hand to assist with maintaining their attention enticing them to perform or demonstrate their manners. Sometimes it takes a little bit (about 15 minutes) for the doggie to relax near the camera. It all depends on the dog. I don’t usually pose them but just follow their lead.
Where do your Pet Portraits take place?
Most likely the session will take place in a local dog-friendly park in the Barrie area. I am happy to photograph your Pet at your home as well.
What’s your trick for getting the dogs to cooperate for the camera?
TREATS! I recommend that you bring your dogs favourite treats to the portrait session, as you know best what will keep their attention and make them perform best for the camera.
Are there any other items we should bring?
I recommend that you bring water for your pooch. Especially if it is hot outside, they can get overheated and will most likely appreciate a drink towards the end of the session. It’s also helpful if you bring treats for your dog. I always have some too, but they are going to respond best to what they are used to getting for treats.
Do you use photo props for Pet Portraits?
Yes. I do have some props. For example, a bow tie, or a basket and blanket for smaller dogs. Generally, I don’t use props for every shot; however, this is totally up to your preference. If you have items that you’d like to use as props, you are more than welcome to bring them along.
Am I able to be in the photos with my dog?
Of course! I will concentrate on photographing just your dog for a few of the photos, but you are more than welcome to be in the photos along with your pooch.
When do you book your photo sessions?
I am available to book photo sessions days, evenings and some weekends. The best time to take photographs is in the early morning, or evening, before the sun is too high and bright. The light during these hours is most forgiving and soft. The “golden hour,” or right before sunset, is well sought after by many photographers as a time for capturing beautiful photographs.
